London 2012 Olympics: Day 9

The latest news and views from the London 2012 Olympics

  • Day 9 of the Olympics and Team GB continued their amazing performance with more medals. It was GOLD for Andy Murray in the men's singles tennis. He also won a SILVER medal alongside Laura Robson in the mixed doubles final. It was GOLD for Ben Ainslie in the sailing; SILVER for Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson in the sailing. Christine Ohuruogu secured a SILVER medal in the women's 400m final. There was SILVER for Louis Smith on the pommel horse - and BRONZE for Max Whitlock also on the pommel horse. Ed Clancy won a BRONZE medal in the gruelling cycling challenge of the Omnium.

    Here's a round-up of today’s main events:

    Athletics: The men's 100m lived up to expectations. Usain Bolt won in 9.63 secs - fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake won silver with a time of 9.75 secs. Gatlin won bronze in 9.79. Christine Ohuruogu failed to retain her title but secured a SILVER medal in the women's 400m final.

    Tennis: Andy Murray won his first medal of the day, claiming a GOLD after emphatically beating Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in straight sets 6-2,6-1,6-4. He also won a SILVER medal alongside Laura Robson in the mixed doubles final where they are were defeated by Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi of Belarus.

    Sailing: Ben Ainslie won his fourth GOLD medal in his Finn medal race. Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson won a SILVER medal in the Star.

    Gymnastics: Team GB's Louis Smith won a SILVER medal and Max Whitlock claimed a BRONZE.

    Cycling: Ed Clancy won a BRONZE medal in the gruelling Omnium.

    Athletics: Christine Ohuruogu secured a SILVER medal in the women's 400m final.

    Hockey: Team GB’s men’s side recovered from 3-0 down against gold favourites Australia to draw 3-3.
