London 2012 Olympics: Day 12
The latest news and views from the London 2012 Olympics
-
Day 12 of the London Olympics sadly saw no medals for Team GB - but plenty of excitement. Team GB narrowly missed out on showjumping glory today, whilst the BMX competition got underway with Team GB’s Shanaze Reade qualifying fifth.
Athletics: The women's long jump final ended in disappointment for Shara Proctor who was eliminated early on. Lawrence Clarke has qualified for the final of the men's 110m hurdles. Usain Bolt has safely qualified for tomorrow's 200m final. Mo Farah had to work hard but did enough to qualify for the 5000m final which is on Saturday. Sophie Hitchon set a new British record in the women’s hammer throw qualifying round. Lynsey Sharp qualifies for the 800m semi-finals, which take place tomorrow. Team GB’s Daniel Awde's olympic experience ended after just two events of the decathlon. Awde suffered a knee injury during the long jump.
Hockey: Team GB's women lost 2-1 in their semi-final against Argentina. They will now compete for a bronze medal.
Equestrian: Unfortunately for Team GB's riders, they could not add to their team gold, with Nick Skelton and Scott Brash narrowly missing out in the second round of jumping.
Boxing: Team GB's Nicola Adams is guaranteed at least a silver medal. She will now contest the gold medal bout. But Tom Stalker for Team GB lost 22-23 to Mongolian Munkh-Erdene Uranchimeg.
BMX: Shanaze Reade and Liam Phillips took part in the seeding round of the men and women's competition. Shanaze Reade qualified in fifth, Liam Phillips finished 12th.
Sailing: Ben Rhodes and Stevie Morrison miss out on a bronze in the men's 49er.
Canoe sprint: Team GB’s Tim Brabants fails to defend his title from Beijing after he finishes in 8th position in the men's kayak single final. Team GB's women's kayak four finished fifth in their final.

Cahal Milmo:No prizes for guessing who the crowd want to see tonight. Bolt only has to enter stadium to get cheers. #indyolympics

Cahal Milmo:You can just watch this guy all day. Bolt destroys opponents while looking like he's out for a jog. First in his 200m semi. #indyolympics

Athletics: False start in semi-final three from Michael Mathieu of the Bahamas. GB's Christian Malcom is hoping to book his place in the final. Churandy Martina finishes first with Christian Malcom in third. His time of 20.51 is not fast enough to take him through as one of the fastest losers. -

Cahal Milmo:Discus winner Robert Harting has found his pass again. Lost it during celebrations last and, supposedly, slept on a train. #indyolympics

Ian Herbert:HT Arg 2 GB 0. Bitter complaints from GB about 2nd goal, claiming ball out of play in build-up. But video referral request came in too late

Cahal Milmo:Pity. If she'd reproduced her 6m83 qualifying jump she'd be just outside the medals and have three more gos. #indyolympics

Cahal Milmo:Why do the stadium announcers need a French guy to say the name of every Francophone athlete? Didn't they do GCSE French? #indyolympics

Athletics: Men's 110m hurdles final coming up now, with Britain's Lawrence Clarke running. He receives a huge roar from the crowd when his name is announced. Let's hope he can use their cheers to spur him on, he will need inspiration if he is to get past Aries Merritt, Dayron Robles and Jason RIchardson.
